Bruce & Jenny, owners of Suncoast Caravan Service have been travelling through outback Queensland, visiting some of their favourite locations and exploring new attractions. They began in the town of Stanthorpe, part of the Southern Downs Region. Our family has visited Stanthorpe every year now, as it has become our favourite place to start our journeys inland. The town is central to some amazing wineries, beautifully grown fruit and vegetables and picture perfect National Parks.
This visit, they stayed with Kim & Jamaine from Country Style Caravan Park. The park is positioned on the Severn River, boasting drive-through sites and large grassy riverside unpowered sites.
Attraction: Along the highway is the Ballandean Pyramid, a 17.5m pyramid structure made from 7.5tonnes of local granite blocks.

Nindigully Queensland
After stocking up on apple pie, wine and cheese in Stanthorpe, it was time to move onto the famous Nindigully Pub –
Queensland’s Oldest Pub. Since 1864 this original shearer’s accommodation building has stood as a local legend on the Moonie River.
With old fashioned Aussie hospitality, you can pull up for good feed and a cold one, then camp out the back for the night.
Camping is free, and right on the Moonie River. If you’re looking for a great spot to rest, add Nindigully Pub to your list!

Charlotte Plains Queensland
Heading out from Nindigully for relaxation in the Artesian Bore Baths at Charlotte Plains. Bruce & Jenny visit every year, as Bruce says ‘its like a different world out there’ soaking in one of the baths, spotting all the bird life and watching the sunset over a red horizon. Currently about $38 per night, but this is a working Station, so camping is supporting the income of the Station.
Lake Bindegolly Queensland
After Charlotte Plains, they stopped at Lake Bindegolly near Thargomindah for some perfect peace and quiet. This beautiful, isolated free camp location is set perfectly on the Lake. With plenty of bird life to watch!
