These alarms are affordable and simple to install. What is Carbon Monoxide? Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly toxic gas that is tasteless, colourless, and odourless. CO alarms detect the early presence of carbon monoxide, which can come from sources such as heating systems, cooking appliances, vehicle engines, fuels, and blocked chimneys. While CO alarms are designed to complement smoke alarms, they are not a substitute and do not meet the legal requirements for smoke alarm installation in homes.
